This is Maci, a young Labrador retriever, doing something very special. She is walking around her neighborhood in a calm, well-behaved, enjoyable manner. What you don’t see in the picture is the cat that a couple weeks ago sent her ballistic, barking and lunging. You also don’t see the man on the bicycle, who also triggered scary behavior. It’s not a miracle; it’s clear, consistent communication on what is acceptable and what is not. It might seem like a small thing — walking the dog in the evening — but it’s the core of building a loving, respectful relationship with your dog. Maci still has some triggers that we are working on. Certain dogs she encounters are still a challenge. But her progress so far has been amazing. And I have no doubt that soon she’ll be the best dog in the neighborhood. A+, Maci!
