This is golden retriever Max, who is finally old enough (has had all his shots) to start working in public places. Although this looks like a home, it is actually the lobby of Bass Pro Shop. And with everything being so new to such a young puppy, he was pretty excited about everything! So we are working on just sitting and watching the people go by. Although everyone wants to say hi to such a cute puppy, they are being told no. Because Max needs to learn to simply exist around strangers without expecting attention and petting from them. Max is going to be a large, powerful dog and his owner is hoping he can act as her service dog and will be able to assist her with some mobility challenges. If Max learns early on that people are vending machines for love, he will of course pull to everyone he sees. He must learn to never pull on the leash, no matter what he sees. And this is a good lesson for any dog, even a family pet. Nobody should ever pet your dog without permission, and permission should not be granted to just any stranger. Once Max learns that people and other dogs are just things like any other thing, it will be easy for him to focus on his handler. Max did very well after we sat in the lobby and calmed down a bit. We went through the whole store, visited with some very large fish in a tank and even experienced the elevator. Max had a great time, even without strangers visiting with him! A+, Max!
